Non-Standard League Rules and Guidelines

General

  • Each month will constitute a "season" of play with the same sets.
  • Each season will use a Swiss-system tournament, so no player will be eliminated mid-season.
  • Every week, each player will play a match with an opponent of comparable tournament score.
  • Games should be played with a "Regular" level of rules enforcement, similar to casual play or FNM. Allow your opponent to take back simple play errors and work together to solve any rules confusion that might come up. We're all here to have fun!

Scheduling and Reporting

  • You are responsible for contacting the player you are matched with and arranging a time to play. If you absolutely cannot make it work, please let Andy know ASAP, and they will attempt to re-pair you.
  • Unless you and your partner agree, assume that you will be playing with Discord voice chat and using Untap.in.
  • You are encouraged to allow others to spectate your match, but if either player would rather not, then matches should be played privately.
  • After a match, post the result in the #magic-the-gathering channel or DM Andy. Make sure it is clear which player won, along with the exact record (2-1 or 2-0).

Deck Constraints

  • During the official League matches, we ask that you keep to a single deck. The time before each season starts can be used to try out different brews, and alternate decks are of course fine to play in friendly matches.
  • It is acceptable to make small changes to your deck between matches, as long as the deck remains largely the same. This is on the honor system, so try to be mindful if you tinker.
  • If you happen to have prior knowledge of your opponent's deck, you are not to adjust your deck in response before the match. This is also on the honor system, but is a matter of community trust.
  • If you believe that your opponent's deck uses an illegal card, bring it up with them. We are trusting that no one will intentionally violate the rules, but accidents happen. By default, any illegality discovered should result in a 2-0 match loss for the player with the illegal deck. However, we encourage players to allow their opponent to fix the deck and play a rematch to replace this result.

Match Guidelines

  • Each match will be a best-of-three, with the match ending when any player has won two games.
  • Between games, each player may move as many cards as they wish between their deck and sideboard, so long as the resulting deck and sideboard remain legal.
  • For the first game, a random player may choose to go first or second (Untap.in does this automatically). In subsequent games, the loser of the previous game is given this choice.
  • Before each game, each player may mulligan multiple times, beginning with the player who goes first, then alternating between players until one player declines to mulligan. The "London mulligan" rules should be used.
